National Archives Canada provides a choice of two files when obtaining an Armed Forces Personnel Record in thier application (also see Personnel/Crew Downloads).

  • The Genealogy File contains very basic information, i.e. Attestation/Application Form, Medals awarded, Postings to bases etc... usually not enough info and you'll kick yourself for not ordering entire file.
  • The complete Personnel File has every document the service man/woman filled out, plus any document the Armed Forces filled out without his/her knowledge. Also includes all documents sent to Next of Kin if this individual was killed, and documents not sent to N.O.K. concerning investigation into his/her death. 
  • Many of these documents I cropped to contain part of first page, as one document can be several pages.
  • Microfilm can be purchased or obtained through inter-library loan, the purchased copy is usually a better quality.
